Fellows attend group coaching workshops with locally sourced professional executive-level coaches. These coaching sessions help the fellows develop an action plan to determine their post-graduation career goals and aspirations.
Project teams are partnered with a mentor from a leading for-profit enterprise or management consulting firm. The mentors help guide the design and development of key deliverables and provide fellows with an introduction to consulting frameworks and access to local knowledge and experience.
Students engage in multiple reflection sessions to deepen their experiences and key lessons learned during the fellowship. Each participant is provided with a notebook and encouraged to journal their daily experiences.
Starting with an orientation week, designed by Emzingo to provide them with new tools and frameworks and a better knowledge of their environment, fellows will also attend workshops and seminars during the duration of the program. Some examples of these sessions include design thinking and social innovation workshops, adaptive leadership, impact investing, or cultural intelligence. They will also engage in country-specific sessions to help them understand the social, cultural, historical and economic realities of their host countries.
Social impact internships and consulting projects
Students are placed in teams of 2-3 to consult for an NGO or social enterprise in a high-level strategy, research, or implementation of a strategic challenge lasting 5 to 7. Sample project:
· Design and launch a social enterprise in Peru: Padma Peru is an incredible NGO in Lima, Peru that offers psychological support and job training for women suffering from domestic abuse. Emzingo NexGen Fellows worked with Padma to design and launch a social enterprise business called Puriy, that teaches these women how to design and sell leather baby shoes, so that that they can become self sustainable. Consultants from NYU and IE Business School researched the market, developed a business plan, and built a financial model to help start the business. They also helped Padma find and hire a business manager to make the program a success. Visit their website for more details: https://www.puriyshop.com
Of course, no trip could be enjoyed without a visit to nearby cities, countries and game reserves. Midway through the program, students have the option to take a group trip to places like Cape Town or Cusco in our South Africa and Peru programs. They are also free to travel in groups during weekends, as well as before or after their fellowship. These trips are encouraged but optional, and they are not covered or organized by Emzingo.
